Education

Brian Nielson, a proud product of Ephraim, was raised on a cattle ranch and farm, instilling in him a deep appreciation for hard work and the conservative values of his community. Brian's educational journey reflects his commitment to continuous learning—graduating from Manti High School, Snow College, Utah State University, and Western Governors University. He earned his Associate degree from Snow College, a Bachelor's in Sociology from Utah State, and a Master’s degree of Science in Management and Leadership from Western Governors.

Family and Personal Life

Brian's family, consisting of his wife Kristy and their three boys, reside in the heart of Gunnison. Professionally, Brian's extensive background in Criminal Justice has spanned roles in Juvenile Probation, School Resource, Patrol, Investigations, and more. In 2010, he ran for and was elected as Sheriff in Sanpete County, serving with dedication until 2021. Following this, he assumed the role of Executive Director of the Department of Corrections from 2021 to 2023.

Community Involvement

Beyond his professional endeavors, Brian has actively served the community in roles such as Fire, EMS, and Search and Rescue. Additionally, he's found joy in coaching youth basketball and baseball. Reflecting the spirit of community involvement, Brian's family took on the ambitious project of building and operating a sanctioned BMX track in Gunnison.
